You know, it feels very odd to press “publish” on my new website and blog.
Though I’ve had both before—primarily linked to business ventures or specific creative projects that I’ve launched with various partners—this is the first that is entirely mine. My planning. My design. My thoughts. My writing. My news and updates. My blood, sweat, and tears.
All mine.
That’s not to say that I haven’t had help along the way. I certainly have. But before anything here goes “live,” I have the final say on whether or not it sees the light of day. In other words, there’s nobody to blame but me.
With that said, let me tell you just a bit about what you can expect to find here, both if you come back on your own or if you—and I hope you do—add your name to my newsletter email list.
In the short term, you’re going to hear a lot about the upcoming release of my first novel, TICK TOWN. A pulp horror adventure, I wrote TICK TOWN in the spirit of two of my favorite types of entertainment: the pulp horror novels of the 1970’s and ‘80’s and the big-bug sci-fi/horror flix of the 1950’s and ‘60’s. It’s meant to be—and I believe it is—fast-paced, engaging, and lots and lots of fun. Imagine grabbing a large popcorn, a box of M&M’s, and a bladder-busting-size soda and settling in for a double-feature of JAWS and THEM!…and then heading home to spend the rest of the night reading Guy N. Smith’s NIGHT OF THE CRABS.
That’s what you can expect from TICK TOWN when it releases in June.
Beyond shamelessly plugging my new novel, though, I want to use this site and blog to share my insights into the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of the creative process.
Not only am I getting set to launch my debut novel, I’m also in the process of writing my second one. And with two feature films under my belt—THE NURSERY and THE HEADMISTRESS—I’ll certainly have a lot to say about the next filmmaking adventure when it comes along.
Is that it? Hardly. I don’t have the attention span or discipline to keep it so simple. So anticipate some thoughts and reactions to movies, books, and other pop culture artifacts from both yesterday and today. Look for info and updates about events and projects that my fellow writers and filmmakers want to share (I’ll help spread the word whenever I can!). Enjoy some original short stories and essays that I’ll only publish here. And expect plenty of giveaways, desperate pleas for help, and lots more.
Through it all, I hope you get the occasional chuckle, insight, thrill, and—most of all—enjoyment out of what you find here.
I want to grow as a writer, filmmaker, and creative force, and I want both you and I to have fun along the way.
So buckle up, folks, ’cause here we go!
